Cant get O/S working

Hi

I have just got a new ASUS MB (M4A77D) I am trying to upgrade fron an advent T9317 i am only useing the hard drive and DVD drive for the new setup

The problem is when i start up the pc restarts before windows XP is loaded and then goes to the start up options screen (last known config,safe mode ect.) can i have done anything wronge ?

Are you doing a fresh install of Windows? If not, then you are likely to run into all manner of problems, if in fact you get it running at all.

Changing motherboards normally requires a fresh install of the operating system unless you are replacing like for like.

The only way I can think for you to get it running is if you have the XP disc, you could try a Repair Install from the setup.

Repair installs can work but I would advise against it. Wipe the hard drive clean and start from scratch - that way you know any errors you run into will not be OS related :)

I've had a mate phone me up literally an hour ago and he's had the EXACT same problem, I did (harshly) laugh at him for a good couple of minutes - mainly because he claims to be a "god" when it comes to building computers; I THINK NOT!
