Can't get PC and Laptop to see each other

Here is the setup, 1 Wireless router, 1 PC(wirelessly connected to the router) and 1 laptop(wirelessly connected to router).

What i want to do is share files, and the printer which is connected to the PC through USB.

I tried running the network wizard but it doen't allow me to pick my wireless adaptor as the networking device, it only shows the ethernet one. I cant ping the laptop from the pc and i cant ping the pc from the laptop.

The computers wont see each other, they are in the same workgroup, i made sure from my computer.

As for printer sharing, i enabled the "share"option on the desktop PC, and when i goto add a printer on my laptop from a network location it doesnt find it.

Can someone guide my through it.

Thank you.

Little help please, i have just found out that i can use TightVNC to access either machine from both machines..but i still can't ping the other machne.

make sure the xp firewall is disabled on both machines. no need for it as the router is providing the same protection. if you are running 3rd party firewall software then check that is allowing access.

also check the properties of the network connections and make sure "file and printer and sharing for microsoft networks" is ticked. :)

I've done all of that, thanks for replying. I got sygate firewall, i've set it to allow traffic through(i've been using it for years now, never caused any problems).

any other suggestions?

most free firewalls allow internet for one pc,but not networking for more than 1 pc, disable/uninstall sygate n try again?

i think your thinking of ICS which is not usually supported in free firewalls. whereas this setup is two seperate pcs connecting to a wireless router.

i do suggest sygate is uninstalled though. at least you can then rule it out completely with your troubleshooting. :)

have you manualy set each pc with its own ip? if not i would then both pc and laptop will see each other also make sure there on the same workgroup

use these settins just change the x from 2 to 255

hehe Nice edit, almost got you on the default gateway IP address there ;)

Hi guys, all that is set, the ip's all look fine, they are part of the same network and workgroup.

As for the internet that works on both machines. This isn't an ICS configuration, both machines have got wireless adapters which connect straight to the router wirelessly.

Thanks again guys ;)

haha Mr Man yea i was screen dumping my own settings and saw what i forgot to edit :)

hmm gam3r have you got file & print sharing turned on by any chance?

also check if you got windows xp firewall turned off as thats a pain in the butt
