I have just connected my hdmi to dvi and it auto selected 1280x720hd progressive and this is amazing for my gaming. Playing crysis again everything high and temps of cards only reaching 34, however on my normal windows screen it wont fit to the screen. i.e the start bar and the sidea and top are missing. I cant resize it no matter what i try even if i use the nvidia to do it? any ideas?

There maybe some setting that you missed that set's it to use HD TV or normal LCD comptuer screen, HD TV and normal computer monitors have different native resolutions so most manufactures have some way to switch setting between the two. I've just bought the BFG 9800 GFX GeForce and it has this option to use either HD TV settings or Computer screen settings. This is no good for me at the mo though as my new Card is constantlly crashing all the time so I'm probably going to have to return it as faulty.

I think to have the other option maybe you have to have your monitor plugged in, becasue monitors are plug and play it will probablly require a reboot while your monitor is plugged in for it to pick it up and display corectlly. Try plugging on your monitor rebooting your PC and if it's still all over the place check the setting then and see if there is anything else. Also make sure when you plug in the monitor you havent got any kond of adaptor inbetween the monitor cable and the monitor i.e. DVI - DVI cable only with no converters in the middle.

Tried the nVidia you say. With the custom resolutions thing, or just the normal slider? In XP I think it was, I had to manually increase the res on my 24" from 1920x1080 to 1920x1200 every time I booted up because the PC didn't detect the higher res, I had to make a custom res in nVidia control panel and load that every time. So I had black bars at the top and bottom before doing that.

Ive just tried the nvidia slider, if i set a custom res it wont be the 720 hdmi signal then will it? Also what is this dot to dot mode and how does that work. Your help is much appreciated guys. My tv is just 720p or 1080i it says the best and native res is the 720 so what can i do? i.e i had it on 1920x1080 on component but its not the screens native res is it a better quality then hd?

has anyone got any solutions to this yet? and also ill throw another one in, when i first boot the pc it doesnt recognize the hd lead so when its booted i have to unplug lead and plug it back in then i get my picture back? Strange one any suggestions please?

Native res will give you the best picture as the set wont have to do any scaling up/down so your better off at 720 although the res of your set will prob be 1366x768 so it will always have to do some scaling your prob best setting the res to that and trying again.
