Hi guys can anyone help?

I have a Gigabyte M68MT-S2 motherboard with an AMD Bulldozer FX-4 quad core 4100 3.60Ghz with 2 x 4G Kingston Hyper X genesis grey DDR3 1600Mhz

But i cannot get the ram to run at 1600Mhz it always boots up and shows as 1333Mhz in the Bios. Ive tried all the settings in the Dram config etc etc but having no joy at all....

Aren't those modules only rated at 1600mhz with an xmp profile? Which afaik is an Intel thing...don't know if AMD have something similar?

I can't get mine to run at that frequency either. CPU is over clocked. When I set xmp profile it runs at 1750! My bclk is set to 175 n CPU mult is 21. Pretty much get instant Bsod at desktop. What should I do?

Using xms3 ddr3 btw

The second link has this in its spec:
M/B Chipset: INTEL P67

I'm no memory expert but it looks as if that memory is only rated to 1600mhz in intel sandybridge systems using an XMP profile, at least that's how it appears on the surface.

And shadow-king, I haven't clocked a 1156 system, but I thought those systems had link between bclk and memory speed rating, you would either need to drop your bclk back down, or lower the memory speed before you OC and it should raise with the OC.

AMD boards can enable XMP profiles, my old Crosshair III had a choice of doing this (although, it was a high end board). Looking at the manual for your GA-M68MT-S2P there's no option to do this.

Set the RAM voltage to 1.65v and set the speed and timings manually again. Make sure the RAM voltage is on 1.65v as it's the max rated voltage for your RAM. Leave the options you don't know on auto. Set the command timing to 2T as it's less strain on the RAM compared to 1T. Make sure you're properly saving the settings before you restart as well.

Hi sedsy72

Can you please tell me whether you ever got your memory up to 1600Mhz? I am having the same issue as you and am a little annoyed that the machine was sold as having 1600MHz memory only to find it running at 1333MHz. Overclockers Support haven't much to say on the matter.

Cheers

Jock

This needs to be made clearer to people. The Kingston HyperX is being advertised as 1600mhz kit so I expect them to run at this when I recieve them on Monday. If they don't they go back. Should nto matter what board/system you are running, the description should state if it is limited to running only on Sandy Bridge which it doesn't.

I completely agree jaybee!! I'm loathed to send the whole Titan Krypt system back now that I've installed additional drives and spend a lot of time setting things up. I did this on the advice that I could definitely get the memory up to 1600MHz.

I called the Support Desk again today (for the 4th or 5th time) and have been advised to speak with people on the forum about overclocking the processor which should then allow me to get the RAM up to speed. I will be doing this although it may take time or may not be possible at all.

If I have success or find the relevant posts from other people I'll post links otherwise I'll be back onto OCUK to again speak about them mis-selling systems.

Cheers :)

Thanks jaybee, you are in fact right and it amounts to false advertising. I was going to dig into the overclocking side of things but read your post and realise you're right. I was sold a system as one thing, it's not doing what they said it should so they can either fix it or I'll take the matter further.

Cheers and Happy New Year!

If you state which specific motherboard you have then I'll take a look for you.

Do you not set the ram to 1333 and up the FSB to 244 to get the ram running at 1600 like the older AMD chips?

It would be 240 I think: 1333*(240/200)=1600

But the posters above seem reluctant to do that.

The OP could easily have achieved 1600MHz by changing "Set Memory Clock" to manual in the BIOS and "Memory Clock" from x6.66 to x8.00.

The other posters may have similar options in their BIOS.

They never stated that it will instantly run 1600mhz straight out of the box. Some motherboards makes the default speed 1333mhz, so it's up to the user to crank it up to 1600mhz. They don't need to test for stabilty either as the kit's already been tested to run at 1600mhz. It's not the RAM manufacturer's fault, it depends if the board allows the option to access the 1600mhz profile or if the memory controller can handle such speeds.

Hi Surveyor

Sorry for my late response. The motherboard is the M68MT-S2. I have tried changing some of the timings to those suggest by OCUK Support and the multiplier is set to x8.00 but these changes didn't make any difference. I've been very careful around changing voltage settings as I don't have any previous experience and want to avoid damaging the system.

Any help you can give me will be hugely appreciated and thanks to everyone who has responded to this thread so far :)

Hi Jocketh

If you've been onto the BIOS and changed "Set Memory Clock" to manual and "Memory Clock" to x8.00 then the RAM should be running at 1600MHz.

The motherboard says it only supports up to 1333MHz which is odd if there's the option of a x8.00 multiplier.

Please post a screenshot of the CPU and Memory tabs from CPU-Z with the changes above made in the BIOS.

Depends on board revision, Revision 3.0 only supports up to 1333mhz (OC), where as Revisions 2.3 is 1600mhz+ & Revision 3.1 support up to 1600mhz.
