My son has recently set up a new pc and got a case with a built in RGB light on the front but we cant get it work.

The case is

Kolink Nimbus RGB Midi Tower Case - Black

The info says the following:

The RGB Control is via a small circuit board installed in the front element. In addition to the switch in the I/O panel, the LEDs can also be addressed digitally via software. For this purpose, the board has 3-pin connectors for mainboard control via the 5V connector.

So I assume that it can just be controlled via the switch on the I/O panel and no need for motherboard or software control? How is this connected up?

The motherboard he has is the Asus Prime B650-Plus AM5. I don't think it has a 3-pin 5v connector?

If not how do we get it working via that?

TBH if we can just get it working via the switch on the I/O panel he would be happy.

There should be a power connector on the RGB hub/circuit board so have a look for that, it might be a SATA connector. Once that's plugged in the switch on the case should allow you to cycle through, there's unfortunately very little information regarding what the ARGB is compatible with on the Kolink website.

You will need to connect power to that little board whatever happens.
Then it should either control via the button on the front io, or, the motherboard does have headers for both 5v 3 pin addressable and 12v 4 pin rgb.
Both are on the bottom edge of the board, white connectors. Just to the left of centre.

Asus website has a manual if you need further help locating them.

Free version of signal rgb should also work
Runs rings around asus aura
And just about any other led software in my opinion
Got 6 different manufacturers leds in my build
No need for a load of different software
Signal rgb picks all of it up

2nd image is a bit blurry
Can't see if it's a fan connector
Or 4 pin jst
Plus I don't know where the sata cable
Is coming from
Is that from the front of the case?

The wire with the sata connector and the 4 pin is coming from the front of the case connected to the RGB led that is built in. The sata cable connecting to it is coming from the PSU.

I can't see those pics currently. That extra 4 pin connector might be for adding more RGB (usually fans).

The Kolink controller from what I remember works via software when the motherboard header is plugged in. By the remote/case buttons when the header is not connector.

On the case are there 2 buttons. 1 for mode and 1 for colour. Try pressing and holding the mode button first for 5 secs as there is a reset function on these controllers sometimes. With the SATA plug connected of course.

I had a Kolink PSU before which had an RGB reset button on it rather than a physical power switch.

Just to add I might be mixing up the Phanteks cases where just disconnecting the ARGB header switches between the software or case button control.

I do remember the Kolink PSU reset button also swapped between the motherboard and software with one press or did a reset with a 5 sec press.

There is only 1 button labelled led on this one. Looks like it faulty. we stripped it right down and connected it to a different sata power connector and still nothing. We will try plugging it into the motherboard and installing signal rgb.

We also have a VDG in on the same wire as the 3 pin header connector. Whats that for?

Pics i linked before now working
