Can't get rid of desktop icon

No idea how I done it but a while back I created a shortcut for Administrative Tools on the desktop.

Having a bit of a Windows spring clean and want to get rid of it, only it won't let me.

Right click doesn't give me the option to delete and dragging it to the Recycle Bin does work. Running the Desktop Clean Up can't get rid of it too.

Any ideas?

Nope, not in there.

Not in all users\desktop is it? although to be honest it should still give you the option to delete it if your an admin and it is in all users.

highlight and delete key doing nothing as well?

if so, very unusual!

is it being added to the desktop by a registry entry here? :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace

You're looking for an entry like this:

{D20EA4E1-3957-11d2-A40B-0C5020524153}

If so that's the little blighter

dont go removing anything else as you'll end up with no recycle bin etc

That registry key is there but is it definitly for the Administrative Tools icon?

Also, will it delete it from the control panel?

Next time download (if you using it) Windows XP and use tweakui to remove any icons you like from your Desktop. Lots of tweaks and configs which are very useful
