I'm trying to enable shadow play mainly the FPS counter but I can't seem to get it to work

I do have it enabled in GeForce Experience but when I press alt+f12 in game the FPS counter doesn't come on

Is the game an Nvidia experience game? If it is not it won't work in game.
 
Did you configure where the fps counter should appear under preferences? Like this:
