Ok, ive just sorted out my 4gb blue screen errors for my new build by upping my northbridge. That's all sorted now, thank god.

So ive just decided to try some basic OC'ing.

Specs are:

Asus p5q SE mobo
Intel E8400
corsair 4gb dominator 1066mhz ddr2 RAM
palit hd 4870 1gb
seagate sata II 500GB hdd
corsair tx 650w psu

I upped to stock fsb freq from 333 to 400 keeping the multiple at 9 to give me a 3.6ghz clock, and 800mhz ram speds. Left everything else on auto, apart from the memory and northbridge voltages which are set to 2.1v and 1.2v to sort out my 4gb blue screen probs. All good right? pretty simple.

I exit the bios and save changes and the computer powers down (is this normal btw, never noticed it before but this is only my second build). I waited a few seconds, then tried to turn it back on. The fans and leds come on for about half a second then everything powers down again. I couldn't get it to turn on at all after this.

I switched the cap on the jumpers to reset the cmos and load deafult bios values and it worked fine again. So then i tried the same OC again, and also tried setting ram speeds to auto and the full 1066mhz but the same problem occurs.

Is there something im missing here? Any idea why this is happening and what i can do to sort it out?

Thanks again all

I haven't really tried a lot, i gave up after my first few attempts because i got bored of resetting the cmos.

The only overclock ive tried was 3 to 3.6ghz. I've read the e8400 can manage this on stock voltages with just a simple fsb increase so haven't change the vCore at this point.

Ok, ive had another go and after many failed attempts i cant get the system to post with 400mhz fsb even with a 1.3v cpu voltage. Something aint right here is it? Anything else i should tweak? I can get the fsb to 350 with stock voltage of 1.1v but any higher than that and it doesnt want to boot.

Surely i should be able to reach 400mhz with a 1.3v vcore??

EDIT: The best i can get so far is 375 fsb at 1.25v core, which seems extremely poor.

I've thought about that and can't find any setting in the bios, anyone with a p5q se or just p5q for that matter seen this option anywhere? or is it automatic?
