Sorry, another 'cant get it to post' thread :(

Basically 'tis my brothers mates PC, so all replies after this will be from my brother (hope thats alright).

In the box there is
- ASUS P5L D2 Motherboard
- SATA Hard Drive (160gb)
- 1 DVD RW
- 1 CD Drive
- 7600 GT
- E6400 Processor
- PSU 500 Watt "x-pro"
- 2GB 5300 Giel RAM

So yeah, the machine wont post. We've tried disconnecting *everything* but the Mobo, CPU, RAM and GFX Card, but no luck. We tried the 7600GT in another PC, and it worked fine. We tried my 7600GS in this dud machine, and still no life. We tried one stick of RAM then the other stick of RAM, but no luck. We also tried another PSU, no luck. The fans are definately getting power as they're spinning, and there's a green light on the motherboard.

... so any ideas anyone?

Cheers :)

For a start...is there a system speaker on the motherboard? Or can you atleast connnect one from the case to the motherboard anywhere? As that will help.

Things you can try:

-Try the system without ANY ram, see if you get system beeps (Obviously you need a speaker for this hence the above Q)
-Have you tried re-seating the CPU? ie taking it out and putting it back in the socket...Try looking at the motherboard pins also, as they can become bent when installing the cpu, and this can cause the system to not boot up, but power on.

Thanks for the suggestions.

There is a case speaker and it has been connected but it hasn't made a peep since i've been fiddling. I've taken out the ram and reseated the processor but no luck. Am currently taking out the motherboard to see if there are any problems underneath, but i'm not counting on that.

Oh and I didn't see any bent motherboard pins either.

Hi, you have plugged all the relevent plugs in for the power have you, like the 4 pin 12v for the CPU and the CPU fan is plugged into the right header on the board and you are using a 24 pin plug not a 20 pin plug into the ATX connector. Sorry to sound like they are simple things, but missing a lead is a common mistake and one I have made myself once.

Also, have you looked at the mobo to see if the CMOS clear jumper haven't been connected to the pins to make it short to reset the CMOS, as this can make a PC not boot and I had it happen to a build for a friend once. And one more thing, is the PSU powerful enough.

Hi, I'm furnace's brother using my own account. I went over all of the power connectors and they're all in properly. CMOS pins were normal but cleared it anyway for the sake of it but no change. Power supply should be enough at '500W' but haven't checked its actual output, although I doubt that'd affect it posting especially without a processor or RAM on the board.

Well, we've gone over everything we can think of and it has to have an inherent fault somewhere. I'm gonna return it for a new one or a refund. Thanks for the help though peeps.

Well...hate to say it, but you atleast need the CPU in the board for it to do anything really...

You can run the board without the RAM just to make sure it isnt the cpu thats faulty...But you need a cpu in there to make the system post beep etc.
