Cant get xbox controller to work in Elite Dangerous on Oculus Quest 2

Hi,

I recently brought an Oculus Quest 2, and I thought I would try Elite Dangerous as it seems the ideal VR title.

I can get into Elite fine, and I can track round with the headset in the cockpit.

However I cannot get any controls to work. The Xbox controller I use for most of my gaming does not seem to be recognised, nor can I use the Oculus controllers.

Other Steam games such as Star Trek Bridge Commander work perfectly, but I don't know what Im doing wrong here?

Im connecting via the link cable.

Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

Can you connect the controller via bluetooth to the Quest?

Is the Elite window in focus? If it isn't then gamepad or joystick controls don't work.

That did the trick! Thanks, works ok with Xbox controller now.

Do you know if there is support for the Oculus controlers?

The Oculus Store version supports touch controllers as a gamepad. I don't believe the Steam version does, as they removed Oculus runtime support for that version.

You're far better off using a gamepad, or even better a HOTAS.

Not tried elite yet, but I know with squadrons, playing with a dual flight sticks, or a hotas, is so much more immersive and fun over using the controller.

I got a hotas one for £30, and two t16000m for £15 each. 2 from ebay, the last from facebook marketplace. There are bargains to be had. Looks like I'm selling the hotas one for £55 (much closer to "true" second hand value), since I like dual sticks more, so in the end, I've spent £5 on two flight sticks, that are probably worth closer to £70 together (even second hand).

Be patient on ebay, look for mislabelled/poor labelled items since these tend to go un-noticed and so have less competition. Not everyone knows what they've got or what it's worth, and most importantly what to name it!

I've enjoyed it but I've got to the point where I have a posh ship with gadgets and enough money to buy a couple more. I'll probably put it away for a bit.
It looks fine but it can be demanding if you want to turn up all the options and resolution.
