So ive recently tried to cleanup my overclock and went from sitting at a not always happy 4.2Ghz with 3000Mhz ram via a 125 boot strap set via XMP.

Today i started again this time with only the cpu first intending the memory to follow:

cpu vcore 1.2v
agent voltage 0.9v
bootstrap 100
clock speed 4.5ghz and is stable with intel burn test, cant run realbench as even at stock speeds luxmark stops responding and the test fails thinking its instability.

When i try to set the XMP profile and set the bootstrap back to 100 i cant post and get nothing till i set it back to 2400Mhz .
How do i get back to 3000Mhz ram speed ?

I have the team group vulcan 16GB 4x4GB kit

Need more information. What CPU?

If it's Haswell-E, you'll likely need to stick to 1.25 strap for 3000Mhz. Most CPU will still have difficulty running this ratio otherwise.

I finally got a stable overclock through asus real bench but have now hit another pot hole. Seems i can only get to 4.4 ghz without my ram boosted from 2400Mhz to 3000Mhz or i can go with 4.37Ghz with 3000Mhz ram thanks to the 125 boot strap via xmp.

So which would be better in your opinion :

4.375Ghz + 3000mhz ram

4.5ghz + 2400Mhz ram

Also need to find some good thermal paste as it hits 95.C with intel burn test at 4.5Ghz

Hmm DDR4 generally gets a little more from bandiwidth than typically the case with DDR3 and older but I'd still bias towards higher CPU MHz and tightening up the timings on the RAM at the lower clock speed.

Quad channel the controller can really struggle to get higher MHz rates on the RAM when you are overclocking.
