can't hear midi files

I'm using a SB X-Fi xtremegamer fatality pro sound card and I can't hear the playback on midi files. I can hear mp3's etc fine. I've performed the driver update so not sure why there's a problem. Any ideas?

What are you using to play the midi files?

Although it may be obvious, have you set the output device(or something similar) to something like midi mapper or GS wavetable synth?
