Hi all, bit of a dilema i've had for a while now, but cant go on any longer....

I cannot install any new programs on my pc, for example, just tried to install kasperspy- security window pops up-i click "run", folder location window pops up i select c: drive, then nothing happens, i can still use the pc and all its current programs and functions without restarting, but if i then click to install it again it says that the install is in use by another process???

Ive tried lots of different setups, but it just appears to do absolutely nothing?

any ideas?
thanks
S.

Look for the install process in task manager and kill it. If windows installer is broken i cant see it being an easy issue to fix without the get out clause format reinstall :o

if it is broken, use dial-a-fix to repair it

google for it!

Try re-registeriing your installer..

At the run command type each of the following..

regsvr32 msi.dll >press enter

regsvr32 msihnd.dll >press enter

msiexec.exe /regserver >press enter

Rebooot and try installing something to test if its working.

right, thanks for the replies,

tried the run commands, rebooted, -no joy

there were 2 kasperspy processes and it would only let me kill one of them???

gonna try to get dial a fix and hope that works (not quite ready to format at the moment!)

got dial a fix, extracted file but wouldnt run -so cant fix it as i cant run any new prog's!!, couldnt even find it in processes to kill it!?!?!?!?!

think format is coming aint it :( :( :( :(

Don't balk at me but try rebooting like 3 times in a row, might be you have backlogged install processes and that'll fix it. Alternatively you will have just spent 5 minutes doing nothing but hey, it doesn't hurt anything :p

just rebooted 4 times, and then 3 times with a few minute intervals before turning pc on-no joy, thanks anyway.

I'm prob gonna use a sledge hammer on it next
