Just done a new build, specs are:
Asus p5k-e
Quad 6600 cpu
Point of View 8800GTS 512
Windows Vista Home premium 64bit
2x2gb G.skill 8000
Enermax Liberty 500w

Anyway, got the OS up & running, installed chipset, sound drivers etc.. but whenever I try to install the graphics drivers Vista won't start on reboot. I first of all tried the ones that came with the card, then the latest ones from nvidia site, still won't work. The problem happens just as Vista should load, the monitor enters power save. I then have to start in safe mode & do a system restore. The card is currently recognised as a standard VGA adapter.

Any ideas, I've tried a couple of different versions? Will call it a night here as I'm pretty tired but will try again tomorrow. Any help would be appreciated.
I haven't updated mobo BIOS so dunno if that would affect things anyhow.

Nobody any ideas on this at all, any help would be apprecited. Definately is related to nvidia drivers as when I start in safe mode my card is recognised as an 8800GTS, however if I roll back the drivers it starts fine although in VGA.

When you say that the monitor enters power save - does Vista continue to boot, or does it just hang? (Any sounds/hard drive activity?)

Mattus, thanks for the reply. It was a schoolboy error on my part although somewhat confusing. I was using the DVI lead which worked fine until the drivers were installed then would do the above. I didn't suspect it was the fault of a lead as I didn't realise it would suddenly stop transferring a signal whenever the drivers for the card were installed.

Anyway, 2 reinstalls of the OS, trying various drivers, the thought occured to try a VGA lead & bingo, everything came up as planned. Dunno whats up with DVI though as I have my monitor drivers installed as well.

have you tried enabling monitor input as dvi?

On my monitor for example vga is default and when i first installed my system i had to go into the monitor options to change input to dvi.
