I just changed out my gtx 650 ti with an Asus 660.

I downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia site (310.90) but when I try to install, the installer just closes itself after clicking this

I've tried running driver sweeper but it made no difference. Here's what it shows in gpu-z

Help please! This is really getting on my nerves, have spent the past hour trying to figure it out :(

Have you tried the new Beta drivers for Crysis 3? Good performance increases and may get around this issue as a quick fix. I always do a fresh install each time (it gives you that option when installing iirc).

Tried running the installer as administrator? (I forget if it elevates via prompt), just a thought.

Yeah I tried it :(

This is how it happened.

650 ti was installed fine with nvidia drivers 307.32
I removed the 650 ti and put in the Asus 660 without uninstalling drivers
Windows booted and everything was 640 resolution
Removed 307.32. ran driver cleaner, downloaded 310.90 and now in this situation where drivers won't install on either the 650 ti or 660. It completes the 'checking system compatibility fine' but the instant I click AGREE and CONTINUE it just disappears. The installation process stays running in task manager.

Try rolling back windows via system restore to before you cleaned the drivers. Then download/install drivers as normal without wiping them - only need to clean them out really if you're jumping between red/green teams.

I had system restore disabled from following some silly SSD optimization guide

It's possible you've knackered something by running the driver cleaner, e.g. removed a registry entry which is required.

The nVidia installer gives you the option of doing a clean install and this is more than sufficient for most people.

I don't know what else you can try other than a non destructive reinstall of Windows.

Actually, I think I only ran the driver cleaner after it failed the first time. Whenever I update drivers I always do the clean install option and never anything else.

Really don't want to have to reinstall Windows, surely there is something else I can try?

Not sure mate. I'll let somebody else give you some ideas.

I'll give it another 30min.. if someone has any ideas speak up or forever hold your silence! :)

As someone said above, no need to reformat (just yet). Do a non-destructive install (google it) of windows over your current installation first.

Doh, didn't know that was possible... have already reformatted and the driver installed fine. Still have no idea what caused this though
