Really bugging me this problem, just got a new set up of:

Asus P5Q, Q6600, 4gig PC8500 and a Sapphire 4850 hd and for the life of me i cannot get either 32 bit, or 64 bit vista to install on the machine, If i boot from CD it gets to the first part and then hangs before it displays any text, if i try to upgrade XP it installs some files, then goes into a rebooting loop.

All versions of XP install fine.

Ive tried removing sticks of ram, loading bios defaults, only running one HDD, standing on my head, clicking the heels of my Ruby slippers and last but not least, threatened it with a severe poking with a sharpened stick, and it still wont have it.

Any thoughts?

is the DVD drive your using SATA? If so try getting hold of an IDE one and use that

No its a IDE DVD drive I'm using at the minute. its not the greatest in the world (its very noisy) but it is fully working.
