So, was interested in trying out Win 8.

I burned the 64 bit ISO from the Microsoft website to a DVD, booted up my laptop to disc and just got a blue screen.

Burned another disc.

Same result.

My laptop is a fairly new MSI 780, well within requirements.

WTF????

I used Nero to burn the iso both times, should work just like that thread says. Unless it takes like an hour for the install screen to appear? I'll try an external hd

for example :-)

You can also download md5 checkers :-)

Also... as suggested by other people for burning.. once md5 checked, try forcing the burn of the disc to 4x maximum. Some people suggest writing discs faster can cause them to fail (As much as 9 out of 10 bad!). Just trying to think of things it could be.

It is possible, that your PC components are too new, or drivers haven't been put into the release preview. If there is an option to install some, that might help.

Can always try something like virtual box and install win8 in a virtual machine? That way you can install it directly from the ISO. If it is a new laptop you shouldn't have any issues running it on top of your existing OS...

Windows 8 Release Preview is out first week of June. Wait for that, it will be an almost final version of the OS and should have many improvements over the CP you downloaded.

Win 8 is slated for release in October.

I installed it on a VM tonight and it's terrible. I don't like this VM software and I don't like win 8 either.

To make matters worse, it seems to totally ruin my keyboard when I close it. I have to reboot my machine after it's closed because pressing any keys on my keyboard seems to open up shortcuts.

I'm new to VM's but I'm not going to bother doing a duel boot, it just seems like a warped version of windows 7 with no start button.

Nobody likes it at first. You need to install it on bare metal and then use it for a couple of weeks. If you still don't like it then fair enough, but you can't judge it properly just playing around in a VM for an hour or so.
