Hi guys

Hope you can help, i recieved my new budget rig today but im having trouble installing windows to the new HD i think it could just be a dud.

Everything booted up fine on 1st boot apart from when i forgot to plug in the molex connector for the sata HD :D. Anyway i boot up the windows 64bit cd and when i get to the partition part there is an error in the corner saying....

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk, the computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk controller is enabled in the bios menu"

I know i have connected it all up properly, sata cable to the board, sata cable from PSU and a molex plugged in as well. I did also notice when i went into the CMD prompt and tried diskpart sometimes when i typed "list disk" it would come up "no disks attached"

I have listed the setup i bought below but am i right in thinking i've been sent a dud HD?

Hope you can help many thanks

I dont think i have one but i will have a look. I have been doing some research into it and a few people have said that i may need to install some drivers before it will let me install?

dont think that would be the case, windows has always installed for me first time, then drivers for the motherboard gubbins afterwards

I have never had any issues installing windows before but cant work out why it wont let me install it to this new disk. There are no partition on it just unallocated space, it wont even let me format it or do anything

ive had problems installing windows xp before, but never on a brand new hard drive, Check all the bios settings and if your motherboard has a primary sata port (sata1) make sure the hard drive is plugged into that port.

Hope i helped

Are you sure you have to have 2 x power cables plugged in at the same time?

You may have killed the hard drive.

I managed to sort it by using another spare hd i had installed it with no probs.

As for the 2 power connections indeed i was wrong it does state you use either the sata power or the molex power lol had a proper dim moment there but in saying that the problem i had was happening when i only had 1 power connector connected. Even when i had 2 power connectors plugged in it was still showing in the bios but for some reason would not let me install to it

All sorted thank god it would be boring if it were straight forward i guess :D

thanks everyone for your help tho much appreciated
