Can't install Windows Updates

Hi all,

I'm unable to install any Windows Updates.

The Operating System is Windows Vista Basic. I have SP1 installed.

When trying to install any windows updates I am unable to and upon trying to install Windows Service Pack 2 (installer) I get the error

"Installation was not successful.

Element now found."

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Microsoft suggests you have 2 choices, either run their system readiness tool, or do a repair install: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958044

Troubleshooting > system > windows update usually fixes most issues.

virus / malware can corrupt files needed to make updates work right
sometimes a re-format is the only way to get updates working again
