Can't keep temps down on 2600k

Hi there I have a a 2600k overclocked to 4.5ghz When turbo kicks in, I had alpenfohm Matterhorn cooler in a silverstone raven rv1 case. When I encode a DVD for example my temps go to 68-69 degrees, this weekend I bought a new case Lian-li x500b and got a corsair h70 to try and cool it down a little, I tried a benchmark program " cinebench" and my CPU went into the 70's. Am I doing something wrong? My mainboard temp reaches 30 degrees max so it's not the case I don't think? Cheers

I have just left the voltages as stock, only changed the multiplier to 45! Was thinking it could be the voltage myself. Asus has an A.I suite and on that it says 1v and it shows actual figure next to it. And it's around 1v. Then underneath it says 3v and the actual figure is correct etc. I've upgraded the fans on the h70 to the alpenfohm wing boost fans there excellent airflow and very quiet! At idle my CPU temp is usually 35 degrees but under any load just shoots up!

High 60 with a h70... does not seem quite right, check the fans/speed/ sitting of the h70 and check that the paste is correctly done?

The paste was pre done with a cap on the end to protect it, i have it sat correctly on CPU I'm very maticulous when putting my system together, I have the h70 plugged into the CPU fan connector and the fans in the sys fan connectors. They are showing around 1200 rpm and I've tested to make it's push pull in the right direction?

running my 2600k at 4.4ghz / 1.3 v and my prime temps are mid 40's with a Prolimatech Megahalems push/pull steup i would imagine you would be getting similar/better temps then me (from reading reviews)

Yeah I am a little concerned, that's why I got the h70 I know there not as hood as propper water cooling but there supposed to be as good as the best air coolers out there. Do you think the temps from my board maybe incorrect? As I have not instability or problems, just high temps?

you say you have the h70 plugged into the cpu fan header, have you turned off the cpu fan speed control ? if you haven't the pump will not be getting full power and this may be the cause.

try either switching the cpu fan control off or plugging the h70 directly to a molex with a 3 pin adaptor or to a header which is not speed controlled.

the h70 is as good as good air coolers but not up there with the best air coolers.

The instructions for the electrical connections on the H50/70 are not that clear - the pump needs a constant 12v and the rad fans need to vary with the CPU temperature or it's likley to get very noisey. I've got 2 Gentle Typhoon scythe's on my H50 and it keeps temps around 70deg on 4.8ghz / 1.345v under 95 prime. I've got some IC Diamond on the way and I'm going to lap the block on the H50 but I just reckon the RAD is too inefficient in the H50 to pull any more heat out of the water.

Yeah now you've explained it seems the more logical way, il swap the connectors over and get some good quality paste, and see how I get on, thanks :)
