Trying to load windows 7 64 bit rc. I get an error saying a usb device has been removed or hd or dvd are about to fail. I stripped everything out so i just have graphics card, cd and had connected and I get the same error. I am running a phenom 2 x2 550 in a biostar TA 790GX A3+ motherboard, ATI 3850, western digital hard drive, and a pioneer dvd drive, and 2GB ram.

The hard drive is normally used for backups only, so has no os on it. Everything works fine under xp, ran chkdsk on the hd and its fine.

Any suggestions?

Yes, apart from usb keyboard and mouse. Removed printer, scanner and wifi. I even removed my sound card as its an old audigy 2 and I wasn't sure if it would be recognised.

if you can swap the keyboard and mouse out.

Vista/w7 are much more strict on broken hardware.
I found it is usually usb devices but if it's non of them then the 2nd biggest caue is dvd drives.

I can plug the keyboard into a ps2 adapter, but i don't have a spare mouse or dvd drive. I'll give it a try.
Thanks for the help

you only need keyboard plug that in ps2 and just remove mouse and see if it installs.
It's a bit annoying. But liked signed drivers Is there to make the system more stable and stop people moaning about windows being rubbish. When it's something else causing the problem.

Ooh ooh I know this one! Use alcohol120 and burn at slowest speed.;)

I burned 4 discs on Magic ISO at its slowest speed, got same error on 2 different PC's with all 4 discs. I used a trial version of Alcohol at its slowest speed, worked like a charm. It has something to do with overburning. It could be that possibly your dvd player used to make the disc may be failing and might be why burning at a slower speed (than what may be offered on your current burning program) helps. I'm not really sure if that is it though. All I know was I found this fix over the net like 2 days ago, because I had the same problem as you.

Cheers!

Same thing happened to me! Only wasted 3 discs though!

Tried several dvd burners at different speeds, and get various errors when I try to run it. It must be my dvd drive. Looks like I'll be waiting till the final version arrives in October.

Thanks to everyone.

You could always install Windows 7 from a usb stick which would eliminate any possible burning problems you may encounter. You will have to have a free 4GB USB stick though. If you would like to use this method instead, simply follow this guide here to prepare the USB stick.

Note: Be very careful with the "Clean" command. Make sure you are selecting the correct device to clean, the one you wish to install Windows 7 from.

After you have prepared the USB stick, download a program called WinRAR or something similar to extract the contents of the ISO file which you would then transfer to the USB stick. Once everything has completed, pop the USB stick into the machine you wish to install Windows 7 on and restart your system. Once the system has restarted and the very first screen appears, keep pressing F8 to load the boot menu. You then just select the USB device with Windows 7 on to boot from.
