Can't log into steam

I've been trying to log into steam all day but it just won't let me. When I turn on my pc I get the login screen and I am asked to enter my account name and password. I enter my correct details in then it hangs for a while untill a I get message saying "Steam is having trouble connecting to the steam servers".

I've looked around on various other message boards to see if anyone else is having this problem, but it seems like I am the only one. Perhaps someone else has had similar problems in the past and could help me.


If its any help, a lot of other sites won't even load for me today either, like youtube. I'm on 8mb BT option 3 by the way. I would give them all call but dont want to waste my time with them.
 
Could try copying and deleting the clientregistry.blob, see if that helps.

Just when you start it will try to update, so might take a few minutes.
 
I did that then I got an update bar,waited a minute and got this message. :(

Everything was working perfect last night and I didn't make any changes at all.
 
Odd.

As you said your having trouble anyway elsewhere soooo.

Tried reconnecting to the net? Restarted the router etc yada yada
 
I'll try restarting the router and see if that helps.

My internet is crawling as well right now, some web pages load quick, but others just won't load. Argh the interents.

EDIT: Steam updated and I got a log in box but when I enter my details, it just hangs for 2-3 minutes untill I get an error message. :(

rebooted my router but still no luck logging into steam.

Could my account be hijacked? Can't think of anything else keeping me from logging in.
 
I'm 99.9% sure your account won't have been hijacked. It's just sometimes you can not get a connection to their servers and you can't log in, happened to me before. Try in a few hours, may even have to wait until tomorrow.

BT Broadband. I've been trying to get away from them but the b*****s won't send me my mac code. I've phoned them 2 times asking for it and they tell me to wait 5 working days, but nothing! Its a disgrace! I hate BT, bunch of scam artists.

btw, I'm now in steam. I had to restore my pc to last friday to get it working.
 
I gave up on steam as it didn't seem to like my router lol. If I wanted to play on steam, I'd have to use the USB modem just to get a connection (And sometimes with wow updates.. bizarre).

Now steam/wow updates are working perfectly, I wonder what has changed.. i daren't reset the router in case it black lists something etc lol (Solwise 715 SAR)
