welcome!
claimed.

i'd go for the X2

if you don't get the X2, don't bother with an X48 mobo, a p45 would probably allow a better overclock, and you don't need full speed crossfire. if you'er thinking of adding a second card at a later date, get a 7*0i board

If you got the cash, go for the 4870x2.

If you are going to be running Vista, get 4GB memory.

I assume you will be overclocking that CPU to 3GHz?

Also what resolution are you running at?

yeah was going to run vista 32bit,cash limits me at the min for monitor so using fujitsu siemens 17 inch ,at min on this hamster run pc i am using 800x600 :(,would u defo say get 4gig or would 2 gig be enough , ido have money for 4870x2 but not ram ?
cheers again

What monitor are you likely to upgrade to in future.

Honestly, I would say go for 2 x 4850 with the x48, which will cost a fair bit less than GTX280/4870x2. Those shoudl do you fine when you upgrade monitor too.

With the money saved get 4GB memory, and still save money.

You would save even more money going for a Asus P5Q Pro P45, and will still see very similar performance to an X48.

Edit: if you are not going to overclock, I would say just get a single 4870. At 1680x1050 with 2x4850, ther is a significant diff between my quad at stock and at 3.2GHz. It is easy to do :)

yeah its for gaming ffallic,i have got it all here besides me so i cant change now,so deffo go for the 4870x2

monitor i am looking @ is the Samsung SM-226BW 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black

Well, if you got it all then defo OC that CPU!

And I would still say go crossfire (either 4850 or 4870) over 4870x2 - my reasoning behind that is that if one card dies, you still got the other to use while broken one gets sent back :)

Plus, money saved on 4850 crossfire will allow you to up the memory - gaming is much better on Vista with 4GB.

Either way you will be happy I am sure - am just trying to present you with options :)

tbh, if u only going for a 22" (1680x1050) u only need a 4850 or a 4870.

i game at 1920x1080 with 4850 and it runs everything fine

Don't have msn at work or home.

Just go into the CPU or overclocking section and post in there when you are ready to give ocing a try :)

I am not going to be around from Friday for a while anyway :)

Do not get Crucial Ballistix to go with an Asus X38/48 board. I have been lucky but most people have had a nightmare and Crucial have withdrawn them from their compatiability lists. You also do not need PC2 8500 with a Q6600. Some good PC2 6400 will more than suffice and get you to 3.6Ghz+. I would just go with a normal Q6600 as well. They will all hit 3Ghz. A 4870 would be fine for a 22" monitor too.

He's already bought the other components

At that res id just get a single 4870, will plow through 1680x1050 with ease and save you a fair amount of cash, theres no point in an X2 at that res when single cards handle it fine imo. :)
