can't play avi on phone. What software to convert?

I see people mention handbrake or something all the time.

I have an avi which I want to play on my Nokia but it says its an unsupported format.

FAIL.

How / what do I need to do?

I don't think there are any phones about right now that will play AVI files. Use Handbrake as above, I use the iPhone/iTouch presets for my Nexus One.

Tis an E72 but I want to do this on a 5800 too

Handbrake as mentioned or Avidemux if you want better quality (with user selectable filesizes) although it shouldn't matter on those phones as they're standard res.
