could anyone help as the title says I cant press a key to boot from cd as when that screen has appered my keyboard has frozen and does nothing yet when i turn the computer on i can still access the bios settings.

what keyboard is it you've got?
also does it work fine in windows etc just this is the only problem? i suppose a quick solution is to plug in another keyboard and see if it can boot of the cd when it asks.

yep works on another system ok only got the one keyboard at the moment might go out tomorrow and get a cheap one to see if that will work. oh by the way its just a basic usb keyboard

Check in the bios for options on the way the system uses the USB keyboard.
Usually something like 'USB support' OS/Bios.

Thats not good. Sounds like a hardware problem. I would guess the hard drive but try running memtest first and/or try another hard drive.

harddrive is ok can get that working in another system as with the cd drive but each time i try in the new system it shuts down as it gets to the setup screen

List the hardware for the system please mate.

To speculate at this stage i'd say it sounds like a PSU on its last legs..... or incorrect bios setting. Pure speculation at this point though of course.

abit aw9d-max, core 2 duo e6600, corsair 2gb ddr2 twin 2x. not to sure what the drives are as they have been used from an older system psu is a thermaltake purepower 500w.

Strip it down to essenitals, unplug case fans, extra storage drives.

Basicly lighten the load on the PSU, and see if that helps...... might help just to have a look at the PSU rails in the bios though.

Is the disk in good condit to?....... cleaned it, checked for dust or scrathes?.....

Tried another HDD?
