Howdy,

Ok I had this problem with Vista Beta and RC1, well I still have the problem in the full Ultimate 32bit Retail version, and its really annoying me (I would swear but I can't) :)

I use print screen a lot with my work, as its a nice quick way to get webpage dimensions etc... but if I have WMP11 it doesn't allow me to do it?

I always used iTunes, but I don't at the moment cos the latest version of iTunes doesn't allow you to get the small player in the start menu on Vista... suppose they are working on that (I hope). So I use WMP11 as that will appear in the start menu... I can't live with it anywhere else :)

So if I have WMP11 running, hit 'Print Screen' and try to paste in Photoshop I get either nothing, or what I print screened before I had WMP11 open. If I close WMP11 and 'print screen' there are no problems at all?

So I know 100% that its that causing it, just how to I get around it?

I'm guessing that the reason it does it is maybe something to do with copyright or sumin? Maybe MS don't want people screen grabbing to steal album art or sumin?

Anyway if anyone has any ideas how to fix it that will be appreciated!

Thanking you!

Hmm can someone running WMP11 at least try this please?

Have WMP11 running and press print screen and try and paste what you printed in to PS, Word or whatever?

Wanna know if its only me!

There is a cool snipping tool under All programs>accessories which will allow you to "snip" part of the screen.

Try it, its pretty cool.

iirc it would've been impossible to do this in XP (with WMP10 at least) - the directX content would become a square with a particular very dark colour through which you can see any videos playing in the background, however it does work for me in vista / WMP11. Try it with the snipping tool I guess. It has the useful "capture window" feature as well.

Yeah I remember using that in RC1, the quality of the final image was horrendous, just checked it again and still rubbish quality.

Besides its too much work getting it into photoshop, takes about 8 clicks.

Nothing will beat the print screen button, so I need a way to get that back.

Cheers anyway!

worth noting that I dont use the print screen to cpature the content sof media player. I don't care whats in there.

When building websites I want a quick way to grab a screenie of the page, so i can take it in and take dimensions, grab images etc.

Its just I listen to music whilst working, and having MP11 playing prevents the use of the print screen button.

Just tried this and pasting the 'print screen' into paint worked. The picture shows no loss of quality either. if wanted, i could post it to the net so you can see for yourself.

So you had Media Player running in the background, pressed "Print Screen" and pasted it and it pasted correctly?

I don't mean using that snipping tool though?

What version of Windows and Media Player you using?

Just made a new discovery.

If I open Photoshop BEFORE media player then it don't work as above. BUT if I open Media Player first, then Photoshop it works fine???

btw I use Photoshop CS3 Beta, but the same happened on my copy of CS2 previously, so its not the CS3 beta doing it?

I opened WMP11 (running on vista ultimate x64), hit print screen, then opened paint and pasted. Everything worked ok. I didn't use the snipping tool.

Ahh right, thats cos of what I write above, if poss try it again BUT open paint first, then WMP11 and do the print.

Prob wont work then :)

I just tried it with paint open first and still could print screen as before. Possible bug at your end?

n00bs ;) :p
It's because the video is overlayed by your graphics card onto the screen

Go to Tools menu -> options -> performance tab -> advanced button down the bottom -> and untick use overlays
