Hi, I have a Netgear WGR614 router and it was all working fine until recently. My main computer was hard wired to it with an ethernet cable and suddenly internet access stopped an it said "aquiring network address" over the icon in the task tray. I hadnt changed anything but it still wouldnt work, ive tried this with my friends laptop and it worked fine so it must be a problem with my computer.

Also since it happened I switched over to using my wireless card instead of a cable, but every so often I cant access anything on the network, the conenction stays on with "54mbps Excellent" but I cant even access the router start page (192.168.1.1)

Anyone got any ideas as to why these problems are occuring and what I can do to fix them? Ive tried reinstalling my ethernet drivers but it didnt help.

Thanks

Also I managed to get the wired connection to send packets but not recieve byt setting the TCP/IP settings manually, this changes the status from aquiring network address to "connected 100mbps" but still wont recieve packets or anything.

Does anything coincide with the problem occurring?
Adding extra hardware, adjusting bios settings etc....

nope thats the odd thing, was completely fine, not installed anything in a while and suddenly this just starts to happen, pretty random.

So, you're saying you've tried another computer on the same router connection and it works fine, so it's localised to your computer.

- What OS are you runing? Windows?
- Has there been a recent Windows update?
- What AV and firewall software are you running? Have they been updated automatically to cause the problem?

Rgds
