Hi all, everything's going wrong today really. My imac's hard drive has apparently died and to top that i just came home to a beeping synology diskstation 8 bay, which means one of the drives needs replacing and the whole thing restoring. Trouble is, i can't remember what ip i need to enter into the address bar to connect to the synology. It's stored as a favourite on my imac, but i can't use that at the moment :(

I can see the synology in windows explorer on my pc and can access the files but i can't figure out how to enter the user interface and start the rebuild process. I know it's something like 192.168.0.1:5002 but that's not working. So how do i determine the ip address of the NAS? Help very much appreciated, and sorry for being pretty silly with network stuff..

Unless it's static you should be able to find it by looking at your router.

If you know its mac address arp -a at the command line may show it.

If it isn't on port 80 you might need to include the http:// before the ip address. It'll depend on the browser.

Several ways, along with the above.
The default ports should be 5000 for http and 5001 for https. If you can see it in explorer then I assume you can see it as a device under network? If so right click it and either 'view device web page' or 'properties' to see the details. If you can see it I also guess it is showing the name of the device? So with the port you should just be able to use that in the address bar. Or open a command window and try pinging it.
