Hoping someone can help with this, 3930k is installed, the memory is set up in the same manner as it was for my previous i7 3820, however the PC will not post at all when the ram is in the quad channel position. If I switch the ram around I can run single, dual, and even triple channel memory but with all four sticks in the quad position it will not post.. Not sure if the 3930K is faulty somehow or it doesn't support memory that the 3820 did?

Silly question, but imagine the RAM is 1,2,3 & 4 and the slot are 1,2,3 & 4 - do you always put RAM 1 into slot 1 and so on?? If so, try popped RAM 4 into slot 1 on it's own and see if it posts. Then try RAM3 in slot 2, then RAM2 in slot 3 and see if you stop again when you get to slot 4.

Also try RAM1 in slot 4 on it's own and see if it posts.

Cheers guys,

No overclocks, everything was @ stock with reset cmos.

Tried different ram positions, single ram, triple setup etc, all worked fine except quad channel? Weird thing is my 3820 quad channel worked fine with this exact setup..

I can't enable XMP either, so my 2133mhz ram is limited to 800mhz atm ..

Mind you with 16GB installed 'Dual channel' I can clock @ 4.5ghz @ 1.4v

Runs cool and stable, so at least clocking is ok..

Yeah latest beta bios 'F13i'..

When ram is in quad channel slot, the pc doesn't even display, like not even post no display nothing, like it's just not compatible.. The PC powers up but the screen stays on standby.. It will post with single, dual, triple channel...

Dodgy CPU?

How can you tell if socket pins aren't ok?

3820 works fine in quad channel...

Could it be the memory, works with one but not the other?

Don't really wanna reseat the CPU, all the hassle of thermal paste / Kuhler..

Well just looking at them should reveal if any are bent (they should already be bent but I mean if one just looks out of place)

Have you tried putting the 3820 back in then?

Tried reseating the CPU and no joy, since discovered the problem seems to be with the ram slot DDR3_2, it will not display if ram is put in this slot? Bizarre because my 3820 worked fine in this slot...

If I use slots DDR3_1 and DDR3_3 it runs fine in dual channel with XMP enabled.. I guess I could send back the CPU and see if another CPU fixes the issue? Thing is I fancied some DDR3 2400mhz anyway, so may just grab 16GB of that and run in dual channel, can throw my old 2133mhz into the HTPC..

Will I lose much from going 4 x 4GB DDR3 2122mhz (Quad Channel)to 2 x 2GB DDR3 2400Mhz (Dual Channel)?

Put your old 3820 back in set up with quad channel, set memory speed to 1600mhz. If ok swap for 3930k then if no joy its probably the CPU.

Don't spend any money on new memory until you have ruled out the 3930k as the cause.

See if you could borrow some other RAM, seemingly Scott from ADK-Audio who build many workstations have reported that 3930 can be VERY picky with ram types, and as a genneral rule runs best with modules build on Samsungs new 1.25 volt chips, other types MIGHT obviously run succesfull, try scan the forums,..
