Cant See files on secong hard drive

I have windows 7 on my machine and i put an old hard drive that was in a xp machine into it as a slave and windows sees the files ok but i dont have permission to open them and all i want to do is copy the my pictures files over, i have read various things on the web about this but i am getting nowhere

Can anyone tell me what the easiest way to do this please ?

Right click on the file then select the bottom option "Properties". Select the "Security" tab and make sure your user has permission to read it.

i have done this and it still wont let me open or move the files , is it because it has xp on this hd as well ?
Sorry for sounding i noob but this is driving me mad
