I am trying to acess my dads PC so i can get into his printer, in windows 7 i do this: "start>>network" but it only shows up the media devices and my netowrk infrastructure? its on the right workgroup and everything. But the laptop downstairs on the same network can see all of the computers connected to the router and acess the NAS etc...where my main computer cant?

Thanks
Freddie :)

This could be caused by a few things.

Make sure Network discovery is switched on (Windows 7)

Try to ping other PCs, see if you get a response. Might be your firewall blocking the other PCs.

Try to navigate to your own PC from your dads type '\\your computer name' in the search bar in Start (win7) or in Run (win xp)

Rara

Also, try disabling the firewall and try again.

After that, if it still doesn't work, go to:

Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections -> Right click the network adapter, go to properties. Make sure 'File and Printer Sharing' is checked!

Also my network goes like this:Fredie pc(this computer) >>> multiple devices>>>internet

and my active networks are:

1)freddies router

2)Netwrok - hamachi
homegroup:joined
connections:hamachi

3)unidentified networkacess type:no network acess
connections: local area connection 2

i uninstalled hamachi and it has reveled the downstairs laptop as a media device and the computer that im trying to get onto the NAS as a media device. I have also found that my unidentified network is my virtual box.
