Cant seem to choose native resolution for monitor?

Having problems choosing the native resolution for my monitor.

Yuraku 19" MA9JBA (i think its the MA9J)

Now when i connect it to the other pc i can get the native res no problem 1440 x 800 (or 900)

But when i connect it to my laptop (changed it into a desktop *literally speaking*) it doesnt give me the option to choose the native res. I usually have to go back to 1280 x800 because if i choose 1440 x 1050 (closest res which appears) it looks more blurred etc)

So i thought i would update the video drivers but according to catalyst control centre the video drivers are up to date. When i try to update monitor driver it also says that it is up to date....

Is there a way to manually select the monitor res?

Control panel then type display then you will see adjust screen resolution, works for me on my lappy.

i suspect it has something to do with the fact that im not actually using the laptop screen but am using an external screen.

Am getting the laptop back from a "laptop repair" shop tomorrow... i wanted them to have a look at it but they refused and said they didnt really do opening up of laptops...
