Hi,

Im trying to setup and share a hard drive on my desktop, wich is using vista and my laptop using windows xp.

I can see the network desktop on my laptop, but the drive isnt there. I have clicked on share in vista, and still cant see it on the laptop. Any ideas?

To sum up, I want to share a hard drive on my desktop using vista. I want to access the hard drive over the network, on my laptop using xp.

Are both in the same workgroup/domain?

Can you ping each other?

Is Vista's firewall blocking it?

Try accessing it directly using the IP. Like this... \\192.168.0.12

Cheers Im sure they are both in the same group. I can see the laptop on the desktop, but cant pick up the desktop on the laptop lol.

I'll try your suggestions. Thanks mate.

Turned off firewalls on both pcs but still cant see the desktop on the lappy.

To ping them I will need to type the ip in dosbox?

Ok when I try and ping the desktop it comes up asking for a user name/password. This happens from the laptop.

Hey I got it!!!

Cheers I just put my username and pass in the box and it gives me access to the desktop now!

Revalation... thanks for the help hybrid. :)

Only thing is I have to type in the password everytime I wanna access the mapped drive?

Still it works cheers.

Thanks mate, but I dont have any entrys for simple file sharing, in that tools/view box.

No worries though. :)

Looking at a thread in windows forum, it seems like there may be some networking bugs, between vista/xp.

Sussed the password thing. Theres an option in vista to enable password protection for files /folders, hence why its happening. I'll leave it on as its seems like a good idea to me.
