I'm totally sick of my PC.

My GTX260 died, bought a 5770, which is ok tbh.

Bought a X38-DS4 mainboard so I can Xfire but cannot get an overclock on it at all now.

My Q6600 now won't go above default, the motherboard has loads more options for overclocking than my P35C-DS3R it's unreal.

My Asus D2 sound card now thinks it isn't there and the drivers won't install.

Now i'm left with a default Q6600 and no sound, seriously considering selling the bits that work and building a small scale linux pc, I just don't have the time, the pacience or the will anymore.

/rant

Can anyone help me overclock with this board?

or spec me a small computer. :(

I bought the GTX260 B-grade a few months back, it's sitting on my shelf atm.

The thing is I had this new x38-DS4 upto 3.8ghz last week on my Q6600, I dunno what has happened. It won't overclock at all now.

I still have my old mainboard boxed up.

EDIT: You know when your at that point of just giving it all up, I'm there atm!

With just console ports I may as well play the PS£ I bought a few years back that just gathers dust now lol, then just buy parts for a simple mini-itx pc and call it all a day.

I'm wondering if you've got a faulty motherboard. Could explain the cpu not clocking (that it wont go even a few MHz over stock is suspicious), and why the sound card isn't recognised.

GTX260 is still in warranty with its manufacturer I imagine, well worth sending off.

If it ran the q6600 at 3.8 recently that makes me more convinced that your board has popped.

Why do ya need an overclock I don;t see much difference at all in mine with my E7400 tbh. Did u try different slots for the sound card and then boot without it and then with? They worked for me with my sound card. Why not use the onboard sound it seems easier than buying a whole new comp. If you don;t have any enthusiasm for it just don;t bother with it and live with it!

well removed the soundcard.

Still can't overclock at all.

Going to remove the mainboard battery and see if that fixes it. If it doesn't. I'll bin this board, sell my old one, sell the Q6600, sell the two SSD's and sell the 5770.

I give up.

have you performed clrcmos?
if not do that, then leaving everythign else on stock just raise the fsb by 5, any luck? if not then definitely faulty board, board should be able to cope with this with everything else left on auto. Sounds like you've had really bad luck, if it makes you feel any better I had similar last month, mums HDD broke, ordered new one that arrived still no joy, figured must have been mobo so got new one (and cpu) that arrived still no joy, tested HDD that had been sent out and it was DOA, lol, RMA'd and replaced again, ended up buying half a new PC, oh well least its nice n fast now :D

SSDs are the only bit working well? ;)

yes pretty much!

List of problems:

GTX260 thin line of graphics curruption, replaced with 5770.

X38-DS4 no longer overclocks at all.

Asus D2 audio card, says it cannot install even when the power light is on.

Antec 300 top fan no longer spins.

I'm so fed up I may even buy a mac mini.

Board seems fudged, it can't even do 271 x 9 = 2.44 Ghz.

Gonna dismanlte it tonight and see what I wanna do.

May go full time linux!!!! and sell all the bits that I know are working.

well yeh im going to use my old mainboard, my psu seems fine my new 5770 is also running fine.

Will buy a bigger case, as i think the antec 300 is too small.

If your cert. you can't RMA the 260GTX then it might be worth trying the old heating trick to reflow the solder... risky but seems to be a common fault with them.

I hardly dare suggest it but have you updated to the latest BIOS on that X38 board? gigabytes are usually good clockers.

yeh latest bios, cant even overclock 5mhz now.

proper naff.

As i don't have the time to game much seem pointless going to i5. Dunno what to do.
