I built a little matx pc for my sis and bro in law a couple of months ago and periodically they call/email me to provide 'free technical support.'

The latest is the question below. Can anyone give some pointers as to how to solve this? Its an Asus P5Q EM motherboard. I'm sure its something simple, perhaps a bios setting?

Gotta question about the PC. When we leave it on for a long while (say half an hour) without using it, it goes into standby mode. I presume it's standby as the blue light at the front flashes. But there's no way of switching it back on from standby - we have to switch the PC off at the back. Is that right? Don't mind doing it but conscious that it means we're not powering down properly.

It should come back out of stand by just by hitting the front power switch. If its not working for some reason then you can ammend the sleep options in windows/bios, so it either takes longer to go to sleep or doesnt go to sleep at all

If you go into performance and maintenance you can check what standby options you have set, also in device manager if you have keyboard/mouse enabled to being the PC out of standby. Some bios also have this option as part of the advanced power management settings.
