Can't tether using iPhone 5 and iOS 6 on O2?

I bought an iPhone 5 out of contract and I'm using a sim card from a sim only deal I signed up for about 2 years ago.

It's a £20 a month deal where I get 800 minutes, 1600 texts and unlimited data.

I've got a funny feeling it's a generic old data plan as I have to change my APN settings for 'Mobile Data' from idata.o2.co.uk to mobile.o2.co.uk in order to get the internet to work.

Problem is I can't see to see any option to enable tethering. Has it been disabled on O2's side because I'm not on some kind of special iPhone contract?

If so, any idea on how I can enable it? I don't really want to change my plan just to be able to enable tethering.

You'll have to google the exact details, but i'm on o2 and at first I couldn't find the personal hotspot (tethering). Its initially under a really obscure menu, but once you find it and use it for the first time, the personal hotspot option should appear in the main settings menu. Sorry im a bit vague on that.

Not sure if its the same but the mrs had a contract on O2 and tethering was an additional cost to have it activated. She moved to 3 and now has the option.

May be that you need to pay to use tethering on O2, she certainly had to when she called to enquire.

It doesn't work anymore though.

Just had a word with them and they said I won't be able to tether unless I upgrade my contract. Although they are currently offering £20 a month for a 12 month sim only deal, unlimited miniutes and texts with a gig of data.

You can add another gig bolt on for £5 a month too if a month is likely to have heavy usage. It might be worth the upgrade to to get the unlimited minutes...
