Hi there,

So I've just started using my Z3 Compact again after almost a year and updated it to the latest Android version 6.0.1.

But now I cannot transfer anything to the SD card in the phone. I'm trying to transfer some music and it either crashes and stops responding mid way through transfering or it does transfer but the files automatically get deleted as soon as I disconnect the device.

I've got developer options on, I've tried using File Commander and that does the same thing.

I've also tried using the Sony Companion software to transfer the files and that doesn't work either. And even putting the micro SD into an adapter and trying that.

Literally nothing has worked.

I have no idea why this has happened, the phone settings have been the same since I've had the phone and never once had any problems, only after this android update.

Would really appreciate some help please!

Thanks

I had an issue a bit like that once which turned out to a failing SD card, it mounted ok but had become read only once it detected a failure. Sandisk replaced it for me free of charge as it was only a few months old.

Might be worth trying another card to see if this could be the issue.

If Marshmallow on the Sony works in a similar way to that of Samsung then the MicroSD card will have been renamed.

In addition you may have to specifically give permission for Apps to access 'Storage'. Go through all your Apps in Application Manager and for those that require access to the MicroSD card give them access to 'Storage' in 'Permissions'. If the Permissions say 'No permissions requested' you may need to open up the app and try to access the MicroSD card first before trying again.

It could also be a faulty card as mentioned above.

How do I test to see if it is a failing card? Because some apps on the card work fine and I can access the media already on the card without a problem.

I'm mainly on about adding music to the card since apps are working fine.

Very strange problem, very frustrating too!

Easiest way to test the card is to put it in an adapter, plug it into Windows and use the error checking option on the Properties, Tools tab.

Ok so I've just done that and got a "there was a problem repairing this drive" error, saying windows was unable to repair the drive.

I've then had a look and did "chkdsk E: /f /r /x" in command prompt.

It's saying corruption has been found on the card but nothing else right now

At this stage I'd be looking to replace it. Even branded 128GB MicroSD cards are under £35 at the moment.

Yeah you're probably right.

I've seen Samsung Memory 128 GB EVO Plus MicroSDXC UHS-I Grade 1 Class 10 Memory Card with SD Adapter for £35 so I'll get that, didn't realise that they were so cheap now!

This card should be ok in my Z3 Compact?

That card will be fine. The specs for the phone say it will support 'Up to 128 GB microSD™ (card slot, SDXC supported)' so the 200GB and 256GB cards should also work.
