Cant transfer to USB flash drive?

Im trying to transfer a 7.25gb .DMG file from my hard drive to a flash stick. I've reformatted the stick multiple times, and when I check its capacity/free space by right clicking and going to properties it shows up as 7.58gb free, 4.00kb used. However, when I try to transfer the .DMG file it says there is not enough free space - How come? :confused:

Might be a mixup between bits and bytes. Or the flash drive may be fake.

How do you mean a mix up? If you mean Im miss-reading, Im not.. And the flash drive is Corsair 8gb, so Id hope it was at least 7.5gb in reality :|

Is the drive formatted as FAT or NTFS?

Go to properties and look at how many "bytes" the capacity of the drive is.

Then go to the properties for the file and find how many "bytes" it says for "Size on disk".

FAT 32.

Looks fine - Drive capacity is 8,145,305,600 bytes, file 'size on disk' is 7,425,597,440.

Formatting it in NTFS seems to of fixed the problem - But will a Mac (OSX) be able to read the stick?

EDIT: Nm, seems it can read it fine, just not write. Thanks for your help guys.

FAT32 will only allow file sizes of up to 4GB.

Sound like you have a drive was not formatted properly. You should check out the article I posted on this thread. It will walk you through how to get your drive's full capacity back.
