Hey guys,
So i made a thread about my GPU dieing on my the other day here....
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=27324911#post27324911
I have now gone ahead and ordered a GTX 970 from doing some research i have found out this will be ok with my set up as long as i update my bios to version 4.3
My specs....
i5 2500k @4.2 Ghz
MSI P67A-GD65 (NOT B3 Revision)
RIPJAW 8GB RAM
EVGA GTX 570
WD 1TB HDD
Corsair HX 650 W
So i have been getting everything ready for when my new card arrives, but i can not update my Bios from V1.19 to 4.3.
Here is what i a have done..
first thing i did was update my bios using the MSI live update tool to V1.19
then after following this thread on another forum...
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=184286.0
I used the MSI Flash tool as mentioned in the above thread and I have followed the instructions to the T that included removing Overclock and reverting back to 3.3Ghz and making sure my boot-able USB was FAT32 format.
Instructions here....
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=116721.0
I have gone through all the processes and in every step it tells me i am successful, even in the DOS USB flash part.
However as soon as i boot into windows and load CPU-z it tells me i still have V1.19
Can anyone help?
Things id like to ask, sorry if this is a stupid question but do i need to have my new GTX 970 inserted into my board before the bios will be accepted?
or could this be an issue because i don't have a B3 Revision board?
(The 4.3 bios is listed on the MSI website for the B3 Revision and the non B3 revision so surely this couldn't be an issue could it?)
Here are some things i have not done as the instructions say i should do this after a successful flash....
Clear Cmos
Install ME drivers in windows.
Also just before the flash the tool recommended i should run MemTest86+ i did select this option but the tool said it was not installed, i proceeded with the Flash and as i said it did say it was successful but according to CPU-z im still bios V1.19
Should download and run Memtest86+ ?, my system has always been very stable apart from the GPU issue. i have also put a post on the MSI forums as well but you guys have always been so helpful that i thought i post here for advice too.
Any advice or help is most welcomed, thanks all
