Cant watch a DVD?

Just downloaded WMP 11 and I'm trying to watch Pirates of the Caribbean 2 with the GF. BUT it says that i cant because a compatible DVD Decoder is not installed on my PC? I though WMP 11 would play DVDs...but it's directing me to sites where i have to PAY for a decoder!!!

Is this normal? Any free ones etc...need help...GF...not impresed...cheers

it can play dvd's but as it says only with a decoder, XP doesn't come with one as standard due to licensing issues, vista now does play DVD;s out of the box but that won't help here. CCCP or FFDshow will most likely contain a dvd decoder.

to enable dvd support in wmp, use this

or a far better player http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm

Indeed I watch everthing in that now as I can set the aspect ratios to my fancey, its superb

It could do with a makeover though imo

Only thing missing from MPC really, looks a little dated now - it is after all based on the mplayer 6.4 design
