Canvas tents

Treat ours every other year.

The only way to reduce mildew build up is ensure the tent is bone dry when packed down, if you have to pack it down wet (pretty much every festival I've ever taken it to and I go to 2 or 3 a year ) get it back up asap when you get home to let it dry and air fully before repacking it.

Waterproofing the cotton is something you do depending upon use, if you don't use the tent very much and it isn't exposed to rain then you could get away with once a year I suppose. What is more important with cotton is to ensure it's properly aired after use and fold it away carefully.

If you have to pack the tent away in poor weather, unpack it again and get it up at home as soon as the weather improves to dry it out. You really don't want mould.

Lovely tent though :)

Cool, thanks for the tips guys. I'm really anal about my tents 'well being' and wipe it down and dry it before packing it. And that's a cheap 2 man nylon one.

Uses will be every 4 to 6 weeks pretty much. Ranging from camping trips to north Wales, to Europe and even a few festivals here and there.

Also, that site has a 12 candle chandelier, or a 2 level one. But I think 12 will be enough to give more than enough light and even enough to warm the tent up. Anyone used something like this? Personally, I've always been anti flames/heating apparatus in a tent. But I assume it's less dangerous in a canvas cotton tent?

Also, they even have stoves. For the longer periods of camping (4 to 5 days in North Wales can get pretty chilly), I'm thinking a stove might be a good investment later down the line. Again, not really sure it's an essential item and will be bulky and annoying to transport in the car.
