I was installing a new 600w PSU and it slipped and knockd off a capacitor

I can give you the code of the capacitor and also the code on the board next to wher e3its come off.

However i rebooted machine and it works fine

What shall i do ? am i safe to continue using my machine

Is that from the missuses rig?

Re-soldering sounds like best option. Only thing is you might have to figure out which way round it goes.

Had a part fall off my GFX & it worked in 2D mode but would immediately crash in any game/3D. Soldered it back on & card worked fine, for about a year :( :)

nah this is off my pc :-(

i fixed hers up all nice, then came to simply install a 600w psu then dropped it causing the part to fall off... oops and clumsy i know

shes happy tho lol

Hmm i will solder it back on if nesessary, but if it dont do much then i wont take the risk

It does actually ye, and i did try that, it was half stuck in but obviously not strong enough, however the blue tack job may do the trick

You see my point then, i could do more damage trying to solder the board than to jsut leave it and see what happens, Or now try the blutak Method

Take a look here.

They recon it's the removal thats the hard bit on multi layer boards.

You'll find loads of helpful info in this thread....post by alpha_uma (3rd down) has masses on info.

You will also find out how to work out which way round it goes (yes it matters)

Tip from EPOX UK on removal..

When we have to replace capacitors on mainboards we always remove them with hot air slowly and gently – heat up the back of the motherboard with hot air of 370°C and when the solder on both of the pins for each capacitor begins to melt, give it a waggle and hey presto – it’s in your fingers (hot fingers). You can then just put that capacitor onto the back of the board in the same orientation and solder onto the topside of the board.

If you have no conscience do as I did when I accidentally knocked a few chips off my old DFI Ultra D. Stick it on Ebay and buy a new board with the cash! :)

which is why a dont buy from foreigners, i dont buy untested, or when someone says 'i dont know much about this motherboard i selling it for a friend' but has managed to but socket 939 dual core takes 4gb ram etc etc in the title

I would resolder the capacitor back on, its there for a reason :p
