Capacitor/something fell of GPU (pic)

Having done SMT fault finding / repair for several years in a former job
My money is defo on C138

1. Its at the edge of the board and therefor more likely to get wacked
2. The solder residue left on the pad looks "right" for something being ripped off.

The orientation should match its other compadre to the left C122

You will need a fine tip iron and a steady hand to get that one on again. The alternative
is that you buy a 100uF cap that is through hole and solder it onto the pads.
Order code VM76H on a uk website that sells electronic components starting with map would work ok for the job.

Hey, thanks!

Yeh, abit of google work and I found my card, as you can see there is something on that one that isnt on mine! Will look into sorting it :).

EDIT: I obviously cant wack this thing back on, wont there be a positive and negative?
EDIT2: dumb question.. look at the picture.. duh!

If it's like my 7900GS then it's probably from near the power connector. I did something similiar with my 7900GS but it was a resistor from behind one of the memory chips that came off mine. Tiny little thing but as I used it it gradually degraded in performance until it stopped working, so I decided to try soldering it back on as I didn't have anything to lose. Managed to get it on but probably burnt the memory chip in the process and as I was plugging it back in I knocked one of those capacitors off it. lol.. new card was in order.

Where you then got a 2900xt :(

I love my 2900XT. Only problem I ever had was the sound and that was cured with a cheap second hand HR-03.

Possibly could have gotten slightly better performance with a 640GTS but that was marginally more expensive at the time and since then the 2900XT has been improved a lot with driver updates.

It's really not the bad card that people made it out to be.

Saw this exact problem on a 7950 X2. Was having stuttering problems after damage (3 capacitors had fallen off) so got replacement capacitors (theyre not expensive) and got it fixed. Course, you can always eBay, stuff like that seems to go for ridiculous amounts on there!
