Running an xfx 5870 @ standard clocks.

To test temps ran Furmark to hear 'the' squeal - first time I've heard it; not an issue with any of previous 260,4870,9800,8800 etc.

Having read helpful postings on the 'issue' here, which all appeared to say that this was just a problem with Furmark, decided (as it was not an issue in any games; it appeared ) to live with it. Do not 'play' Furmark every day :D

But have now found a game that causes 'the' squeal - not Crysis or any other 'testing' game rather 'Settlers - Heritage of Kings' :(

Does seem rather odd - would welcome any advise:-

1. How to stop it (From what I've read the only way is to change card ?)
2. Other games that cause this problem?
3. Why the hell 'Settlers'?

It's not a big problem just irritating that it is only now that I've played this game - well after period I could have sent back under DSR and why on such an old game:confused:

I only get that with my GTX280 if the framerate is very high (>300fps)

In the past I had my PSU squeal as it was a crap PSU

My GTX 280 had squeal at very high FPS - so not usually in games, just older benchmarks. Not sure if it was the card or PSU.

Changed cards to a 5830 and no squeal, and that uses not that much less power than a 5870.

Try and enable vsync in that game - lower FPS eliminated it on my GTX 280.

Enable vsync in cat control center , if that doesnt force it on
then get D3Doverrider and use it to force vsync on
