Capcom are at it again!

At end of the day no gamer loves day 1 DLC, but will still buy it regardless, which is fine, but it just doesnt put the developers/publishers in our good books. Capcoms done this way too often that even though I love fighting games (but Im seriously crap even with a stupidly expensive stick) Ill just wait for a considerable price drop while they moan they are forced to produce DLC to meet targets etc...

Theyve milked us dry when it comes to DLC, they now need to realise what really should be DLC and what shouldnt and of that what can be charged for and what shouldnt. Im sorry but 4/5 characters skins for £4 - no ****ing chance. Are these premium bundled DLC/license you get now any better? They are even worse in my book...

But they're saving you the hassle of downloading it

Seems ok to me, you pay to get the extra stuff, I still don't see the issue

Agreed, its no different from downloading it.

I bet a fair few devs do this and why not tbh!

I never buy DLC anymore, the sooner people stop the better, hit them where it hurts, if everyone stopped buying DLC they would just included it in the game.

I wouldn't mind if this was an online code dlc, I'm sick of devs putting content on a disk and making you pay to unlock it. All those who say don't buy it if you don't like it are idiots, why should you have to pay for this "extra content" that was released on the same disk you just brought.

I don't see an issue, you're paying for the game they've advertised. Which doesn't include the dlc characters.

Of course it would be nice to have them from the off, but coming from a fighting game, locking the characters until a further date will bring a new lease of life to the game.

I guess its different from other games as fighting games can get stale and repetitive, so new characters always spice things up.

With day one dlc for games like mass effect or gears, I can see why you'd be disappointed if it wasn't part of the main campaign.

But with fighting games its essential to ensure the character roster is balanced, so as part of the main development process they need to be aware of all of them. To then go and make a decision, 'Well weve now got the game, what can we take out to keep as DLC' seems a shoddy business practise.

Im one of those people that buy DLC, but only stuff that makes the game last longer, worth the price and generally something that could have been produced after the main release/gold master date. I just cant accept in this situation that these new characters were a tangent of workload rather than part of the whole process...

or exclude more from the game forcing people to buy DLC?

No because they game will be slated in reviews, I remember buying UT for Fifa then they included it for free when they know they could fleece people into buying coin packs with real money.

Now you have characters being added to games ME3 where you have to buy the collectors edition or folk out money when you buy the normal version.

They are just taking the **** now and you will get mugs just lapping it up, giving them more money and more money.

People seem pretty angry at capcom for this.

I believe many are angry because Ono (or someone at Capcom) had stated that the DLC wasn't ready for the time the game was going gold, therefore they pretty much lied to us...

Just what I've heard though, so I don't really know. I've not really been super excited about SFxT.

But who's to say the characters are actually finished?

The models and move sets may be complete, but are they actually tuned and balanced regarding their hit boxes and frame data.

Maybe they'll use this time to balance the characters, as obviously the ones confirmed on the roster had priority for release.

Even though i don't like this day one DLC practice, for me as a fan of fighting games, i'd rather have them released at a later date to add another dimension to the game.

It's like when AE came out after Super SF4, it brought new characters and a new lease of life to the game.

fifa is a whole different ball game (excuse the pun).

developers all think differently, fifa know they will make 1000 times more money by making ultimate team free due to the increased sale of packs than they ever would from selling UT as DLC.

now if a company makes a game where there is no option to buy "packs" or anything else like that on a "weekly basis" meaning no stable regular income, then they could take major parts of the game out and release them as DLC.

look at play tv, it's an official sony product, but you need to pay for the updates, which imo is really wrong, but i ended up being forced to buy them because i had no choice in the matter.

They have been shown on stream for days now. They are fully complete in every way, except potentially very small balance tweaks if capcom see fit to adjust them. Their balance seems fine at the moment though.

I dont get how they wont already be balanced with the set of characters that will come with the actual release? Or are you saying when they release these DLC characters theyll have to nerf the original set accordingly to allow them to fit in? What could they leave to the post-release which wouldnt impact the original lineup? You refer to hitboxes and frame data but that to me is important to be locked down in relation to the original cast...

If its not that and they are already balanced before release, why not just release them rather than holding them back intentionally?

If I remember correctly when SSF4 came out they had to nerf the original characters, but cant remember if this was purely down to competition play/balance issues within the original set or because they were introducing new characters to the lineup...

@Psycho Sonny - PlayTV only had one payable piece of DLC, which I agree was originally meant to be free (Series link definitely), but the additional stuff it gave was worth the cost involved. Its not like they had it sitting for years waiting to release it...

I don't blame the games companies, people like Microsoft wanted to push this as well. When Epic wanted all gears content to be free, they got their wrists slapped.

With piracy so big on consoles over the years this was always going to happen as a way to recover and exploit more revenue. Personally I think all online content should be DLC. Fit the main game on the disc and get the online game with a code in the game box or charge £25-£40 for a new code. Especially for something like COD, most people buy it for the online and a £25 would recover their money or discourage piracy in the first place. After all if you bought the game theirs no reason for you to not have the code anyway.

I don't care if the DLC is on the disc or not. It makes no odds because it's still likely already made when the game ships anyway. They would remove that content regardless.

I'm choosy about my dlc anyway and have never really bought in unless it was a game I loved. Yes in an ideal world DLC would be free and help pre long the life of a game and it's userbase. Those days of people playing one game for years are long gone though.

It's here to stay and will only get worse.
