An army bomb disposal officer credited with saving seven lives by instructing troops as he lay wounded from a bomb blast has been given the George Cross.

BBC News Link,

Even for the anti-war movement, I hope this mans courage does not get ignored. Defusing bombs is for the benefit of all, including the Iraqi public and to still issue instructions on making the area safe with his leg blown off defies belief for me.

He couldn't be awarded the highest military honour, the VC, as bomb disposal does not class as being under enemy fire so the George Cross was the highest recognition he could get.

Captain Norton, you certainly get my respect.

I believe the GC and VC are considered equal in honours terms, so neither is 'highest'

Incredibly brave bloke though....

Well done to the man. I imagine a lot of people would really panic if something like that happened to them.

A very brave man.

Surprised he was presented it at the Ministry of Defence, would have thought he would have received it from The Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Deserves all our respect, nonetheless

We breed 'em tough and brave down 'ere in Gloucester.

He is a credit to his family, his regiment, his city and his country.
