I want to try capturing footage from my PCs (I have a retro one and new one) to make videos (rather than streaming). I've never done anything like this before so is this the way to go about it:
Old PC outputs replicated image over VGA and DVI
VGA connects to a monitor so I can see what I am doing
DVI connects to this probable piece of junk, which is plugged into my main 4770K PC
Software that came with piece of junk is used to record footage from my old PC at 1280*1024, on my main PC. The USB thing and my main PC's CPU I assume are doing the legwork of recording in realtime.
Right so this USB thing is £15 and can apparently record at 1080P 60FPS/Hz. OCUK sell PCI/E capture cards for £150 that can do the same thing. What's the difference (other than sound recording by the looks of it)
In terms of recording footage from my current PC, would it be best to use AMD ReLive / OBS so my CPU is doing "the game" and recording footage? Is that where the PCI capture card is good- does it take the load away from the CPU so it can concentrate on the game?
TBH 1080p 30FPS (but progressive rather than 30Hz interlaced) recording would be fine.
