Morning all,

A bit of an odd question but just wondered if anyone had heard of a spider setting off car alarms before?

I have a 2006 Focus ST and recently the alarm has been sounding at night with no one around (Trust me I have been walking round the residents car park in my JimJams looking for thieves/Cats/Squirrels/Demnons)

After much Googling about faulty Bonnet, Boot and door catches I checked the car all over and nothing seems awry with those but there is a bit of a cobweb one of the pillars.

Just wondering if a spider would be malicious and able enough to set off the alarm on the car and thus stop me from getting a decent nights kip?

If so anyone got any serious suggestions for evicting this unpaid tennant?

I've had my alarm go off twice; once when my sat nav fell off the windscreen and onto the floor, and once at night - when I opened the door, what looked like an earwig was flying around the roof area right by the ultrasonic sensors.

It has never happened since so yes, it would appear insects and generally small objects can trigger it!

To avoid being eaten by the arachnid whilst driving, or worse, woken up again, it's probably best if you use fire.

I've got the same thing happening with the Mini at the moment. The last two nights the alarm has gone off with nothing apparent as to why. Faulty sensors maybe?

If your car has the ability to disable the ultrasonic sensors, try a few nights with them switched off and see what happens. Procedure is usually in the cars manual.

Funny this post came up, my alarm kept going off last night and driving me insane, turned out my phone had slipped under the seat and kept vibrating with low battery alarm :D

Spiders aren't capable of malice, but to evict them is easy. You pick them up and put them outside.

Stop it you're Killing me over here. :p:p:p

Could be the smog/sahara dust? Our fire alarm at work has gone off a few times today due to dust getting into the sensor.....unlikely in the car I guess though?

You guys are ruining my theory that the spider is watching me walk around the car at the dead of night with a look of knackered confusion on my face! :)

Was going to leave all the windows open all day in the garage but might get the dyson out and give the car a good hoovering to see if I can get the blighter....alternatively depending on how work goes I might use tge switch off sensors tip :)

Just googled this after my car alarm went off in the night and found this thread! Checked the ultrasonic sensors at the front..nothing. Checked them at the back and lo and behold there as a line of web/silk going along the roof attached to both rear ultrasonic sensors! Then i found a little money spider running around so i reckon he ran across the sensors and broke the line between the front and rears briefly!

Little ******

I've had my alarm go off a few times on the Mini. No idea what has tripped it each time, but it usually happens in the summer months and that's when the car gains a few cobwebs each night, so I can only assume they're the cause.

The bonnet catch was dodgy on the focus and setting my alarm off - was logged as an item each time the catch triggered the alarm so worth having a look and seeing which sensor has triggered the event(s)
