Got an issue with the alarm system. when arming and disarming it no longer makes the chirp noise but when alarm is triggered via door entry etc the siren does make its usual alarm noise.
Now the siren just keeps making this glitching noise as iv filmed it in this video:

This noise started yesterday, the car has been on charge for 2 days on the Lidl ultimate speed smart charger, not sure if the issue is related but i did have the car on this charger last year too and no issues. not sure what to do.
Anyone old enough to have experience with this? Alarm was fitted in 2002 and it never had any issues till now

Never had one of the alarms but possibly worth clarifying if that glitchy noise is all the time (other than when the alarm is truggered) now or only when on the charger?

In isolation that noise sounds to me like there's a constant low voltage driving the sounder for some reason.

Its not been making that noise all night, checked today still no noise. Not opened the car yet to trigger siren will test when i get back home. Thinking i should leave battery disconnected for a few hours and see if it makes a difference

I can't tell 100% from the wiring diagrams I can find with a cursory Google (as they all only appear to show only 1 wire to the sounder); but if the sounder is driven via a relay then you might want to try swapping the relay with a new one if you have one handy.

A sticking armature would explain a constant low signal and a still working output and it going away intermittently after physically moving the relay (door closing can be enough) or activating the driver to the relay.

Hopefully you have a better wiring diagram than the one I kept finding or happen to know if it is relay driven or not otherwise this may be a bit of a wild goose chase...

if its making a hick up/glitching 90 per cent guarantee the battery back up is failing used to get this a lot when we used to fit them , its done well for 2002. see if you can find another siren that can be swapped on from toad.
we used to fit cobra/clifford toad and scorpion amongst others , these are cat ones and will have battery packs inside, you may be able if you can split the casing (usually have bungs covering screws but not always ) get to the packs and replace it, normally unplug.

I dont think this has battery backup, im sure it was an optional extra that cost more and i didnt take that option.
One thing to note is when it was making that noise in the video tue siren was also warm to touch.
Proper tired out at the moment will disconnect battery tomorrow and leave it off for most of the day and then test it all out

From what i can see wiring wise the siren has one cable that goes from it to the alarm box unit thing. The cable is supposed to have 4 wires in it, one for power and ground and 2 that handle the digital signal to trigger the siren noises.

I put the effort in and took the battery out. When i unlocked the car i didnt get any chirp from the alarm started car fine also able to activate alarm panic sound so siren deffo makes alarm sound but noticed that it was making that glitch noise again as in the original video.
Will leave the battery off for a few hours and see how it goes. Failing this my options will be limited, dont think there is any support or parts available for these old alarms. Immobiliser still works just siren issue so maybe I can disconnect the siren not sure.

took the siren out and got some pics up here. i think i see where the issue is:

gonna have to clean this up and see what the extent of the damage is. im ok with smd component soldering but will take this slow and steady, will focus on cleaning up the mess first and assessing the damage hopefully someone like @Vince would be able to assist in this. i doubt i can get a replacement siren. i didnt know this model had batteries in it, unless they died out many years ago.

my theory is the batteries died causing high leakage making mosfets stay on all the time to charge the batteries and burning out the fets.
the batteries in my celica siren leaked out but i was able to clean it up and run the siren without battery in it and it still works just doesnt sound off when the main car battery is disconnected.

Yeah that looks like the new favourite for the source of the problem! Here's hoping the damage to the board is superficial and sourcing suitable replacements hopefully won't be too hard.

Left it in the bedroom while i went to eat, wife complaining about burnt electronics smell lol.
Doubt i can get a replacement siren. Dunno if scrapyards will have any too.

usual with battery back ups its a cat one thats why i was surprised you said it didnt have it. damp get in , was going to suggest if you dont need the cat one just remove the battery pack.
i did have a quick look after i posted to see if i could find one (sure i had a siren in the shed for one but would doubt the battery pack up to much ,) i will have another look later in the week.
4 wires , live, earth , coded, and pin switch wire its incorporated in the siren harness for the bonnet.

was going to say if i cant find the unit , i have got several cobra battery back up units either complete or in bits and im pretty sure in the day we would swap internal components over just looking at your pictures they look very similar. it really depends how far you want to go into it as clearly its past its best but some like originality.
if you have disconnected the battery pack and the unit still works ,i would probably cut out the damaged components and just use it minus battery back up atm.

All my old cars used to have toad ai606 alarms in, blast from the past. Unfortunately they've been discontinued now now due to rising costs from china and lower demand. Scorpion who own them have also decided to no longer to that ham cat 1 alarms as they don't see a requirement.

Remember Clifford used to be expensive and considered cool, but pretty unreliable, toad was cheap but worked perfectly, there was scorpion (owned or bought toad) whose products were good and expensive but no one I knew bought them..

Anyway fingers crossed you might be able to find a decent 2nd hand unit, I see people are selling batteries for them

i will never never never ever touch TOAD alarms ever again

constantly going off all summer, dealership who supplied it i threatened him to court, he soon came and fixed it
got rid of the car soon after

if you have the same siren it would be awesome. if you could take some pics of the inside some of the resistors are single black band that means 0 ohms but 2 seems to be burnt and cant see the bands on them. will take components off the board tomorrow and see where im at with this. after the cleanup it doesnt look like any traces are damaged and its just burn marks on the board and components.

Cannot help but my Celica GT-Four also has a Toad Ai606. Would always go off in the middle of the night because I suspect it was a battery drain and not very helpful when you don't drive the car daily. Now it is tucked up in the garage on a trickle charge it never goes off.

probably a massive ask here but if its got the v1 siren square type (v2 is round) would you be able to take a pic of the circuit board for me? also its bes to remove its internal battery to be on the safe side so you dont get the same issue i did.
