Hi,

After paying off my insurance finally, I can now afford to get things for my car, so I want some audio stuff. I was going to get it from Halfords, so far I've seen the Sony CDX-GT24 - WMA/MP3 CD Tuner, because it's got good reviews and has an aux port on. If anyone can suggest something better then go ahead.

I also need some new speakers, but not really sure what I'm looking for, anything which is good with bass. Maybe a sub-woofer if needed so anyone got any ideas?

Max budget is £300 including the cd player I've seen for £69.90.

The car is a ford fiesta mk5 btw with stock audio in.

I'm no guru, but In my motor I have a Pioneer DEH-BT6100 (Has bluetooth streaming, aux, USB, Parrot Handsfree) , FLI Comp6 Component Speakers, and Some Cheapy £80 sub, just for a little fill in (EDGE One I think)

Radio £149
FLI Comp6 £44
Sub £80

Its not the best SQ or power setup or any of that, but it sounds so much better than stock and the FLI's are really pretty good. With some sound deadening and some bits of trim to make it look OEM came to around £300 :)

Spend more than 70 quid on a head unit, get an alpine or pioneer

Why spend more than £70? I don't need extra things like bluetooth just a decent cd player with an aux port.

Just not sure what speakers to get and if they will fit in my car?

A better headunit will give better sound quality.

I do think people on here are too anal/ocd about stuff like this on OcUK, I bought a 140€ 4 channel amp + sub + speakers kit and it sounds great in my opinion with the filters ( 80hz for the sub LPF and 80hz HPF on the speakers ) and gain set up/fine tuned well.

My current setup is this: Some JVC HU from 2007 worth about 70€ by now 4x50w.

2x some cheapo pioneers 5'' in my front door, un-amped, only bought them because the original volvo ones were rotten through due to age.
2 tweeters in the dash filtered from the 2 fronts in my doors using the stock filter ^
2x 5'' stock volvo speakers in the absolute back (rear panels in my boot) un amped.
Raveland (no name) 4 Channel amp, Conrad electronics lists it as 500W( 4x125w) rms but I have my doubts, it's loud enough anyhow.
2x no name ''raveland'' 6.5' 100w RMS speakers, these are behind my rear seats on the boot cover thing, HPF of 80hz on them on my amp.
1 12'' raveland sub 180w, lpf 80hz on it and bridged on my amp.

The amp + sub + 2 speakers were 140, the cable kit was 50€...

I have no idea what speakers are in the fiesta but just take them out and see what size they are, also perhaps ( assuming they are the front door speakers) to be sure measure the depth of the area in it so you don't buy speakers too deep to replace them with. But generally, you can buy any speakers you have the space for to fit them somewhere.

Personally I've grown fond of having a sub. Generally though, for sound quality, people recommend components ( I too have them in my doors and dash) over a sub, these filter the high tones and send them to the tweeters, while sending the midrange and lower range to the speakers.
